This account is here and standing to help spread the music of The Doll. I am not associated with The Doll, I am just a fan trying to help spread her wonderful music. For lovers of an era when music took off I have uploaded this UK Gold video of The Doll because Cherry Red records have rereleased the Doll album "Listen To The Silence" - the album has a bonus CD with 3 versions of Desire Me on it. I bought it for 14 quid and can be bought on Amazon, HMV, and many other outlets for £13 and is a great buy. All songs are available on iTunes. I loved this music ever since I first heard it, and with this double CD release of The Doll came my chance to upload this video to no longer forgotten music from this magical era.

The original album recording was produced by the legendary record producer John Leckie who started off working as an engineer at Abbey Road with artists such as John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison, Wings/Paul McCartney, and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon amongst others. Leckie has become is one of Britain's most acclaimed rock producers, notable for producing many high-profile albums such as The Stone Roses's debut (The Stone Roses), Radiohead's The Bends, The Verve, XTC, Simple Minds, and many others. As then, Leckie is one of the most sought after and well-regarded producers in the business and has received several awards for his work.

The Doll hit the top twenty early in 1979 with their hit single 'Desire Me' - a poppy new wave song that showed great promise. Fronted by the striking Marion Valentine they were indie label Beggars Banquets' answer to Blondie. However due to line up changes and other issues within the band it was a year before the follow up single and subsequent album were released. By this time the momentum for the band had declined and both follow up single and LP suffered for the delay. This re release contains the original album recording plus demos and previously unreleased tracks. The album feels somewhat more subtle than their hit single but is no worse for it. A catchy organ dominated sound runs through this album and along with Marion's much underrated songwriting skills (she penned all the tracks) it proves highly enjoyable listening. A great album that deserved far more credit.
