This song is about the shame a woman suffers as a result of buying into the ideals behind what has evolved into mainstream modern romance. This song was a classroom assignment put together entirely by me. It was not, however, written by me. I recreated it from memory according to the song "A rain of roses" that was written by my friend Josh back when I sang for a band that called itself "Elysium" back in around '01. Josh was a brilliant keyboardist and songwritter. The words and music truly belong to him, but I rerecorded and performed this song as a tribute to him and all that he stood for. I also hold a copyright for the song in his honor.
Here is what Josh wrote down into lyrics: A rain of roses softly falling Like these tears I shed for you So I lie beneath the flowers In a dream I dream of you Distant waves echo my thoughts How many times I die for you The sea beneath me gently calling This final breath I breathe for you.
It seems now that all too often women are willing to throw their lives away over men who put them at risk for HIV, unwanted pregnancies, and all types of abuse. Many times women are too fragile to deal with a situation and can take matters into their own desperate hands over something like a bad heartbreak even, ending in tragedy and suicide. While the same could be said for men, Josh had wanted a female singer for the song because numerically the risk tends to be more severe toward women.
I used Garage Band to sequence the accompanyment at school. I recorded the piano, synths, and drums all in real time. It sort of sounds like I used programmed loops, but I actually played it and then I did copy paste in a few places. I added vocals at home using Music Creator 3. I also gave this some visuals with material I found online, plus a photograph of a woman who was somwhat victimized in this way, using Windows Movie maker. The end result is "A Rain of Roses" arranged, recorded, and performed by Petras Bixby and I hope you enjoy it.
Awesome!
