@gooddarkjedi Europe's situation also has it's positives and negatives. Choice for what you want to do is much more limited. For instance, getting into a university is much more difficult, and most people can't change their course of study once they have started.

I do not want to start a flame wars, but being from Europe :

- it's not harder to get in the universities (maybe french Grandes Ecoles, but they are not universities)

- what do you mean by "course of study" ? because you can change what you study, you just loose time because you start sth else.

And it's true that in Europe,you can find almost free high-quality education — i.e Sweden, and that's really sweet, and I'm still wondering why education is so freaking expensive in the US..

capitalism vs socialism is why. America has a "do everything yourself, the government won't help you" kind of attitude about things. I know countries like France don't, with universal health care and free higher education. Don't get me wrong, I wish USA was more like that :]
