2 WB Stack trains, 1 EB Coal and 2 WB coal. The 4th train, a WB coal had a clear signal until he hit downtown when the signal for some reason turned red. The engineer had probably 400 meters to stop the train. He didn't quite make it, but surprisingly was very close.

  • For the record the UP is putting alot of those "bells" on the crossings, they usually turn off when the gates are completley lowered. As far as getting the red signal there, it isnt required for him to stop but his ATC dropped and for that you must immediatley go into suppression or get a penalty application. The signals in carrol are not absolute signals.

  • What do you mean his ATC dropped? Even though these aren't absolute signals he isn't getting by without the dispatchers permission, right? I'm not very familiar with ATC.

  • $50 says all these trains we within 30 min of eachother.

We have to many damn trains.

  • Well to be honest, you probably only get about 50-60 trains a day through here. These trains were by at 6:50 am, 7:13, 7:34, 7:38 and 10:34 am, with 3 other trains in between the 4th and 5th.

I wish you had more trains! and them be moving faster!

  • I'm sorry but as an employee at the Carroll Wal-Mart this is the WORST and I mean WORST place in the world to put a train! But to be fair Wal-Mart came second...what were THEY thinking is the question...I'm glad they are re-locating...but I will miss the old store!!!

  • NO!!!! That had to be my favorite Wal-Mart store anywhere! The only one where you could be shopping and watching trains at the same time. very sad :(

  • The economy has done that. If we ever get out of this recession, you can bet "monster trains" will be back on the rails again.

  • Love the horns on the first two!

  • trains back then were so long. now trains heading through the area aren't even half as long anymore :(

  • "Carrol is about 40 miles northwest of DM"

    More like 90...

  • Carroll's closer to Des Moines... by a long shot!

  • In ATC you can go by an intermediate red without stopping...

He may have only had an advanced approach, but the ATC will make you stop if you're above 40 mph going by an advance approach or anything more restrictive...

  • No there are some E bells on this line that sound like this,so I dont think its on its last leg.....Carrol is about 40 miles northwest of DM Its at MP259. So 259 miles from Chicago I gotta get over there sometime to shoot trains......

  • hmm, sounds like the crossing there in Carroll was on its last legs. How far is Carroll from the Illinois line? I just want to know if it is closer to Chicago or Des Monies.

    Thanks
