@kiwimci He only went to Pam because Karen had already said no. Jim asked Karen first, then Ryan, and finally Pam if they wanted to pull a prank on Andy. So actually, Pam was Jim's 3rd pick. He was forced to choose Pam over Karen, because there was no one left to ask.

That's so well directed!! I love the way the camera pans to Karen because the camerman thinks that's where Jim will look. Pans back to Jim and juts quickly as it realises he isn't sitting there anymore! Genius! So well directed! What a beautiful intelligent hint to Jim choosing Pam over Karen.
Also Pam's line "Um I'm kind of in the middle of- yes please!" Emphasisng the point that she isn't Karen. As Karen may have been too focused on her job to play pranks. Such a well crafted show!
