Barry was first elected president of Young Fine Gael in November 2007 in Maynooth. Following a busy first term, which involved the Lisbon treaty referendum, and the most successfull recruitment for YFG since the 1980s, he was re-elected for a second term in February 2009, at the YFG National Conference in Athlone.
From Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, he graduated from the University of Limerick and is plying the legal trade in Dublin currently. Heavily active in the 2007 general election campaign, he took over the reigns from Elizabeth Munnelly (Mayo) with a promise of steering the organisation on a sensible path to success, by running lively campaigns and maintaining a constant position in the Irish media. He further seeks to rejuvinate YFG by seeking greater representation on the Fine Gael National Executive Council. Liam Quinn (Offaly/UL) was elected as his Vice President.
