My personal tribute to an icon of the Tower Hall era, who's singing career spans more than 60 years.

Vincent De Paul Peiris is a product of St. Benedict's College Kotahena and De La Salle College, Modera. He started his singing career as a hobby singing in Sinhala, English and Tamil, and made his debut on stage on the 15th of December 1940. His first song was 'Mage Mawuni'.

Vincent was the only vocalist to host two programmes on the Radio Ceylon in both English and Sinhala during the 1940s. He is one of the best yodelers of the country and was referred to as the 'Gay Yodeler'. Although he is known for his music, by profession he was a Marketing and a Sales Officer at J.L. Morrison and later at BCC.

Bicycalae was written for Vincent by late karunaratne Abeysekara. His other famous songs include, 'Siri Padey Samanala Kanda Penei' written by Attyagelle Sarathchandra, 'Dumriya Lankawe', 'Rikshaw Karaya' etc.

After a lapse of silence, the 87 year old singer is back on the SL music scene to take fans back to the good old Radio Ceylon era where Sinhala music was nurtured by legends such as Vincent De Paul Peiris.
