In a 90-minute portion of a hearing on workplace protection, a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee heard an unmistakable message from a Seventh-day Adventist representative: the future of religious liberty in the workplace is in lawmakers' hands, and that legislation is needed to protect the rights of Sabbathkeepers and other religiously observant workers.

"These are my daughters," James Standish, legislative affairs director in the General Conference Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department, told the February 12 Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee hearing, holding aloft an enlarged photo of his children. "If my daughters grow up and they want to follow the faith of their mother, their two grandmothers, and their four great grandmothers, how are they going to be treated in the workplace? Are they going to be marginalized? Are they going to be harassed? Are they going to be fired when they could easily be accommodated? ... The answer to that question is largely in your hands."

  • Dear Sleanos, If you notice, the gentleman in the video says that he is proud of the SDA church's activities. I have noticed as I read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation that the words pride and proud are never used in a positive sense. They always are used in a negative sense and connotation. Therefore it would seem that SDA's should be the last people to use such a word in a positive sense when God never uses it this way in His word. Pride and being proud caused Satan's downfall

  • @bornbythesea Did not God say He was well pleased in His own Son? There is a sense of pride that IS positve and good. It is when pride corrupts the heart into arrogance, violence, etc when it becomes evil. Should we have nor pride in the work of our own hands? Am I as a father NOT allowed to be proud of my children when they achieve something like graduation or making the decision to follow the Lord with their lives. Please rethink your thoughts on this matter for they do not sound balanced.

  • @sleanos, yes, our Holy Father did say this to us. I have felt the effects of pride on my life, causing massive amounts of misery, confusion, rebellion, disobedience, and any other negative thing that has assailed me. Pride has basically ruined me in every sense. But God's grace and mercy are keeping me from complete destruction. I see the effects of pride on my SDA church and it is always a negative thing. I have been fighting a spiritual warfare against pride in the members of my church.

  • @bornbythesea agreed, more often than not, we see the effects of negative pride and it does tend to lead to downfall. Pray for one another, continue to look to the Lord to lead. Sounds like many of your sda members, as well as many other non-sda church members have become "religious" people instead of concentrating on their relationship with the Lord. And we know what "religious" people have done...stoned the prophets and murdered the Son of God.

  • @sleanos, May I humbly ask if you would pray about the positive pride/negative pride issue and search the scriptures to see if they speak of pride or being proud in a positve sense. Thank you brother.

  • @bornbythesea of course. but consider this:

Selfish pride is sin; see Pro 8:13, Psalm 59:12, Psalm 10:3-4, Pro 11:2

God will humble those who don't humble themselves: see Lev 26:18-21, Isa 2:11, Prov 29:23

The Bible also speaks of a good form of pride, but there is a difference - it's based on a pride for others who are living in obedience to God. see 2 Corinthians 7:1-4 & 2 Corinthians 5:12

Lastly: 1 Peter 5:5 - God bless & Have a blessed Sabbath day

  • I am not scared of what will happen because of Sunday laws. I will opose them, and I will even when they pass. Death is better than bowing to those laws.

Jesus will be with us all, no fear in Jesus:)

  • American Employers who discriminate against citizens because of Religion should be HEAVILY fined.
