A beautiful artist! It's sad to know he's gone.

@OrzelBialy616 Steve mentions this at 2:55.

It means to bring the music to a higher level, to transcend the mundane.

Hi what means "lift the bandstand"
-
i caught him at of all places dayton.
part of a 2-city tour? duets w/mal waldron.
beauty - almost every song a ballad, (example) round midnight. talked to them
between sets, discussed literature
w/lacy, who even though i was a lit grad
& a writer reeled off names i'd never heard of.
humbling. oh well. in a word: urbane. wishing i'd asked mal waldron about a song called left alone. words: billy holiday. music: mal waldron. but no recording of them doing it together

Steve Lacy - the best soprano player of all time. More often than not, soprano sounds annoying. That's not the case when I'm listening to Lacy playing it.

Quel malheur que sa mort prématurée :(
Thank you for posting this. 1st. Most people will never search for the film, hence Lacy's legacy is aided by this gesture.

One of the great moments of my life was meeting Steve Lacy in Arizona. You can listen to a moment from this concert (featuring Roswell Rudd) if you keyword "Tucson Train Improvisation."
Thanks for your kind comment.
