A two wheeled adventure! London to Libya in September 2007, on KLR650 and XR650... 18 days round trip. Was tough but great fun, mechanicals, getting stuck in the sand, cockroaches, tics and all. Roman Ruins in Libya just awesome.
Good Job My Friend , People lIke you are the real heros , im Planning a trip Myslef , as soon as i get a chance , what is the most Important thing for a trip like this?? what challenges did you meet?
@iceman775775 most important thing in my opinion is to get on with it and don't worry about the perceived 'dangers' too much (within reason). The challenges are what makes it an adventure so things like getting stuck in deep sand on a hot day, leaking fuel tanks and small offs were dramas at the time but fun to look back on.
@HuckPhin sorry bit of a slow reply... the KLR was better suited for the long distance, the XR best on the sand. KLR shifter broke (not uncommon, so aftermarket upgrades are available) and the aftermarket tank on the XR cracked, so pretty even. I rode the KLR and was very happy with it!
Thanks Hassan, the Libyan people were very welcoming, we stopped on the side of the road in Tripoli and within minutes several people stopped to check that we were ok - never known anything like it in a big city. Look forward to another visit sometime.
