Those interested in this subject should investigate the first and most
renowned documentary on the German resistance to Hitler, "The Restless
Conscience."

Nominated for an Academy Award in 1992, the film was praised in The New York
Times, Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, and many other venues. John
Kenneth Gailbraith called it, "A compelling work of historical and human
significance."

Hal Hinson of the Washington Post concluded called it, "Remarkable," and
"Heartbreaking," and concluded his review: "Most of the resisters were
killed, though some only after being subjected to public humiliation in
vicious show trials. The footage Beller includes from these trials is
devastating; it shows the full extent to which these men and women went
against the current of their times. Though less comprehensive than Ophuls's
"The Sorrow and the Pity," it explores the same heroism of spirit and, in
doing so, deserves an exalted place alongside it."

  • This was on PBS about 12 years ago. Fascinating documentary with interviews of people involved who have since died like Stauffenburg's wife, the plotters kids, Maria von Wedemeyer's sister and Eberhard Bethge of the Confessing Church (recently deceased).

  • Is it possible to tch his doc on youtube? looks very interesting.....

  • @dulle3000 napoleon was a poodle who bit at my feet to open the doggy door.

  • no - he unfortunately survived by accident. the nazis killed plotters. about 200 people was executed.

some month later hitler killed his self.......

  • the problem was: hitler and stalin bouth of them hab been battered by their daddys. their little souls got hurt.

so parents of the world: don´t beat up your kids! you may will create new dictators :-)

  • listen kid i know more on europeon history than i do american history and im gonna educate you now- napoleon didnt destroy "many installation" LOL. he destroyed monarchies and their armies- and yes his army played cannonball run on the sphynx- BIG DEAL

he didnt make any slaves fighters- he used them as scouts and guides outta russia. his army raped killed civilians? WHERES THE EVIDENCE TOOLBAG? no different from any other army in history.

His LEGAL napoleonic code is still used today

  • hey, you do not know very much about european history. napolen destroyed many installation. he made slaves from the farmers and forced them to fight in his army in russia. his army plunderd, raped and killed civilians.

and his code? we have a different tradition in right. based on the germanic and the romanian rigth.

  • @dulle3000 explain how he was a criminal? what destructions tool? He created the napoleonic code, a system of justice still being used in europe today. He set the boundries for nations with his conquests, and created campaigns so brilliant they are still being studied in war colleges today. Because of him the revolution ended- because of him france became a major power, and because of him monarchies fell one by one in europe.

How was he hitler or stalin? you cannot answer =]

  • @stringerboi lol! napoleon was a benefactor to europe and germany? hey dude, read your history!

napoleon was a crimial! still today you can see the destructions done by napoleon in germany.

  • Do you murder everyone you don't like? Being disliked is not reason enough for genocide.

  • people LOOOVE to hate on napoleon and compare him to hitler because of propaganda. napoleon didnt commit mass genocide did he f00ls? ReAD your history.

He was a brilliant general who bought about the modern age to all of europe and made Germany an empire it was in ww1. Without napoleon europe wouldn't have adopted the Napoleonic codes and become the modern powerhouse it is today.

    suck it anti-Bonapartes.

  • did hitler died then?

  • boise state broncos?

  • No one in the world deserves anything bad, not Jews, not Germans. Every nation has evil and pure good. Look at the individual, not the nation.

Hitler was a brilliant man and could have brought love to the whole world, honesty, equal money to all. Instead he brought suffering to millions.

  • you bastard he had no right to kill thousands of people and think nothing of it he was a rascies i cant belive you

  • But the Arians DO NOT DESERVE EITHER STARVATION , DESTROY OF ITS IDENTITY, AND SLAVARY through the Jewish Banks ( USURY )

  • But they were Jewish, weren't they?

  • Of course they did. You have to ask yourself why Hitler hated the jews. He had plenty good reason to. You can start by listening to the talk by Benjamin Freedman from 1961.

  • Looks like it'll be a great film. Jewish people did nothing to deserve that.

  • White slave owners were breaking precept 21 all the time by having sex with black slaves and having bi-racial children. I guess Mr. Lane did not think about that one when he was stoned out of his mind.

Also, precept 20 shows that the black race and Asian race mixed into Europe. This means that the white race is not 100% pure. In colonial America, if you had one drop of African blood, you were black.

Blue Power! Go Boise State Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if hitler destroyed germany and created fear so why that idiot german citizens standed behind him supporting him from the begaining ! i see that he's done great
