Among human activities agriculture is one of the largest producers of methane, a potent greenhouse gas 22 times more damaging to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Now an IFAD-supported project in Chinas Guangxi province is encouraging thousands of poor farmers to turn the methane produced on their farms into fuel for lighting and cooking, not only helping to improve local environmental conditions but also to help reduce poverty.
