I've been through "secret hearings" myself - the judge's action was patently unlawful. l8r I met 3 others w/ same experience - so we decided to do something about it. We all paid for copies of the tape.

My tape began asking my name & I agree... then SILENCE. When I complained I was told "the equipment malfunctioned - the recording was destroyed." That COULD happen, but NOT TO ALL 3 OF US!!

All 3 tapes ended after the name!

Malfunction my perfect, hairy ASS!!

I dont see why it is such a big fuss.....that law is the same here in Canada, the reason why its like that is because, for example, if your parked car catches fire for x reasons and it burns down your house or your neighbor's house, the insurance covering the fire damages is the car's insurance, and home insurance companies will use that not to pay your burnt house. Also, it prevents people from having a whole bunch of scraped cars on their property.

I've been a practicing attorney for nearly ten years and am rather surprised that any judge could claim with a straight face that he or she has a right to privacy in a PUBLIC proceeding.  But then there hasn't been the rule of law in the empire for quite some time now.
