Again Patrick Stewart's version starts this part 9 off with another hard to find gem. Our emotion filled debtors speak an accurate scene of Dickens words. And as if that was not enough, this relieved wife is one of my nominees for hottest Christmas Carol actress.

Michael Caine's words are created by the adaptor but they are consistent with the setting DIckens begins the next scene with. Caine shows off his great depth as an actor here and I just want to say that I am appreciative that he, like George C Scott took on this role.

Did you know Tiny Tim is dead upstairs and we even view his dead body? That is pretty hardcore and not to be seen in the mainstream versions. If this scene were well known, 1935's Donald Calthrop would be the most beloved Bob Cratchit.

We Christmas Carol film viewers generally consider the Ghost of Christmas yet to come as an ominous creature devoid of character. Careful readers know that Dickens subtly shows us this is not he case. Even this solemn spirit is moved by Scrooge's case and if you watch closely, after Scrooge pleas, 'Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me, by an altered life!, the 1972's cartoon Spirit's kind hand trembles- if ever so slightly.

  • 1:32 Another well edited transisition! XD

  • @NodDisciple1 thank you!

  • Yeah it takes a great actor to pull off that climatic graveyard scene and as you say Scott really nailed it. I am so glad that he took on this role.

  • my favorite graveyard scene is probably albert finneys (though i know it wasnt in the book) that skull just freaks me out

  • It always breaks my heart and makes me tear up a little when Bob Crachit breaks down about Tiny Tim's death and the family has to console him.

  • "I never thought a death could bring so much happiness." Ouch.

  • Please please please update this sequence with a little "Thank You Very Much!"

1935 Seymour Hicks = Most underrated Christmas Carol

  • @3piper It's true - the Spirit of the Yet to Come is a spectre many of us fear... a Sword of Damocles, if you like... :-/

  • @DCLeadboot I just watched his hand and saw you were right. The Ghost of the Future scared me when I was younger so I never caught that untill you mentioned it.But even Scrooge called him"good spirit"

  • Indeed, you mentioned the Spirit's trembling hand - I read the book myself once, and also observed the hand trembling in the George C Scott film.

  • The Scott version is the best, hands down. That sound gives me chills every time.
