Here is a little comparison between three Zeiss 85mm lenses. They range in price from around $300 to well over $3k. They all have the famed T* coating and are all manual focus lenses. this makes a huge difference when shooting cinema style with an HDSLR.

  • problem with choosing a Zeiss compact prime lens is that although the picture might be aesthetically pleasing its really not pleasing to your eye having your DP and CA constantly going around with a huge boner...

  • I'm sorry, but the price comparison and descriptions weren't very informative. What I'd really like to see are image comparisons between these lenses. I realize that YouTube compression limits this somewhat, but at least it would give people an idea of their differences.

  • I think i go for the Samyang for 300box

  • where can i find the contax zeiss at?

Do you think it is a good lens to shoot with?

    thanks

  • I got a radioactive super-takumar 85 1.9 for 30 bucks from a chain smoking puerto rican thrift store owner in the ghetto. Is my HDSLR work going to suffer? Probably not.

Seriously, get old primes. They're amazing. You can always mark your follow focus, and there is just a world of exploration there. If you really need a cinema pull and want an old glass feel, either get old russian cinema lenses or shoot on something that's not a still camera.

  • The higher the price, the bigger the lens. :D But yeah that compact prime is pretty overkill unless you have a big budget to spend on lenses. No doubt that it's the best of the bunch in pretty much every aspect, but still.
