I thought Leadbelly was born near Caddo Lake in Texas very near the Louisiana Border. Governor Pat Neff of Texas pardoned him and freed him from prison. Leadbelly got out of Angola due to the Clemency law and not a Governors pardon. Pretty sure that is the truth. A Legendary figure for sure!
