CNN covers Hand in Hand's Max Rayne Jerusalem School, where over 400 Jews, Muslims, and Christians study together. Students aged 3-15 meet on a daily basis to receive an excellent education while forming lifelong friendships. Hand in Hand's peace education project represents a vanguard effort to build bridges between Jews and Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel.

This clip is in English.

Hand in Hand runs Israel's first and only network of schools where Jews and Arabs study together. Every day more than 800 students aged 3-15 gather to learn at four schools in Israel located in Jerusalem, the Galilee Region, Wadi Ara, and Beer Sheva.

  • CNN don't quite mention it, but it should be noted that the reason most schools are not mixed isn't some kind of separatism, but the language barrier. Hand in Hand are bilingual schools. This requires double the teachers and double the staff that a normal school needs, and therefore is double expensive. It's not that an Arab won't be accepted into a Jewish school, or vice versa (very religious schools being an obvious exception). They'd have to study in a foreign language, which is harder.

  • Great initiative, but not the only one. Check out shevet achim website to see what is going on in Israeli hospitals. Political debate or agreements don't result in peace; history shows that they lead to conflict. Initiatives like this, though less observed by the public eye, are of more real and lasting value.

  • I taught there for a year-it is truly a phenomenon.

  • 21 kids from hand in Hand came to my school in Oregon and are staying as exchange students in our homes for two weeks. They are really amazing kids

  • these kids are smarter than a lot of adults!

    i like the school

  • iz nice yes?

  • I guess progress it a much slower process then can be expected.
