Charles Craig, English Tenor (1919-1997) Improviso- Andrea Chenier taken from a live RAI Broadcast from the early 1960's cast included Tucci and Bastianini.
I heard many performances of this great tenor at Covent Garden in the '50s. He was wonderful. So exciting! Always a huge pleasure. I hadn't heard anything of him in years and, on a whim, decided to look him up on YouTube. All I can say is WOW!!!!! He really was as I remembered him!! He was probably underrated just because he was English. In those days English singers often took Italian names. I wonder what his reputation would have been as Carlo Creghieri ...
Just excellent. He was referred to as the 'most Italianate English tenor'. I guess that's a polite way of saying he was the greatest of the English tenors. Can't say I disagree with that verdict.
