Yup joopdemon it is a wire to hold the patella tendon in place.I am getting it out at the end of March. The surgeon said it has served its purpose.I had a total rupture nearly 3 months ago.He said it is only a minor operation to remove the wire.I could finally ride the bike at physio last week.I had the same as yourself,my patella was in my thigh also and I couldn`t lift my leg.But it is finally on the mend and I have a good bend in it over 90 degrees it just takes time and alot of physio.

Paul, I believe the repair is impossible without a suture in. Do you mean you had a detentioning wire in also? Mine has to come out in about 5 weeks hopefully but the suture will degrade naturally.

I had patella tendon surgery 3 months ago.I am currently getting physio.I still can`t ride a bike as my knee wont bend around yet.I had a suture put in so I have to get this removed in about 2 months time.Has anyone had a suture put in?and if so is it painful to get out ?Thanks for posting the video. It is informative.Cheers.

I fully ruptured my left knee on the 1/12/11 and my patella was in my thigh. The test for a full rupture is a straight leg lift, which was obviously impossible for me. Which is why I questioned your full rupture, though I do not minimise your suffering!

I take it this was a partial rupture of the patella tendon? if you had a total rupture you would have had zero functionality and certainly not able to ride a bike?

oh yeah forgot. you said you wouldnt wish this injury on your worst enemy... ive got a physio at Lancaster who is putting me through hell . but your right, its crap. keep with it though, and massage your scar, ive tried boots scar serum. its about 6 quid a bottle and it worked wonders for me. again, if you need any advice or any questions, post on here. Take care Bigjim and have a good New Year. Keep in touch

i feel for you bigjim. at least i can see light at the end of the tunnel. i found 2 paracetamol and 2 tramadol, 2 hours before sleep relaxed me enough to get a half decent nights sleep. dont try to do without your pain killers like i did theyll help you sleep if nothing else . hows your physio going? now im out of my brace 9 weeks and walking without crutches, ive found that my major problem now is my lack of muscle control around my knee. comming down stairs is still a bitch. you'll get there.

@darinbracey208 thanks for reply- i slipped and fell down about 6 stairs while carrying my girlfriends son,i tried to break his fall and did my leg in! i get my cast brace set again on thursday to 60 degrees. its 9 weeks in total since my fall and its crap relying on people to take me anywhere. also very awkward to get in a position to sleep. i wouldnt wish this injury on my worst enemy

how did you do your knee bigjim ?
congratulations on your recovery. i fully ruptured my patella ligament on july 11 and when i did i dropped like a brick . the paramedics , thinking it was a dislocation tried to relocate it 3 times,(wasnt a happy time) . now 8 weeks after surgery im sat at home with my leg in a brace doing my exercises. my scar itches and trying to stretch it is agony but hey. no pain ... my knee still feels like its full of putty and numb on one side of the scar. were you the same ? any help would be great

@darinbracey208 Hey fella, yes i was the same. I still have numbness on the left side of my scar but the numb area has definetly shrunk. My specialist says the numb area will keep shrinking but i will prob hav a small bit that remains. I also hav a fat pad which i guess is the putty feeling u mentioned. The specialist sed he will wait until my knee heals up some more b4 he decides wat he will do. Jus based on wat ive been told i think the fat pad is an after effect of the surgery

@darinbracey208 When u see your specialist next u shud ask him if it is a fat pad/ swelling as im only going by my own situation. As 4 the stretching i started very slowly but it will come. Hardwork, Dedication & patience are the key things i have found. It is major major surgery & as such you gotta be careful. Ater 8 weeks i was still using 1 crutch. Good luck to you in your recovery. And i repeat it is a sloooooow process of healing . Let me know how it goes.

Very impressive that you're able to run so quickly. I fully ruptured my tendon back in February, so am about 6 months into my recovery. No running for me yet, although that may be more of a mental thing. Still lots of work to do on my quads to get the strength back! Best of luck with it :-)

@mikeyoneill Thanks for the kind words. I have alot of work to do on my quads as well. i lost alot of muscle mass & strength in the 2 years from initial injury through to right diagnosis. But i rode my bike alot during the intervening years which i guess kept them strong ish. The surgeon & physio hae said that is probably the main reason for my recovery speed. But since putting up the video it has been slow & steady. Ive increased speed a tiny bit but it is painful so i dont overdo it.
