LIFE IS LIVING.. SO FRESH SO GREEN was part of a series of events presented by the 2009 BRAVE NEW VOICES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH POETRY SLAM which took place in Chicago July 14-19. LIFE IS LIVING happened Saturday afternoon July 18 and began with a breakfast giveaway and a STOP THE VIOLENCE march to Clarendon Park.

The entire park was buzzing with activities. There was a soccer and basketball tournament. There was tree planting, altar building, and poetry readings. Performers on the main stage included Saul Williams, Rebel Diaz, and Pharoah Monch. The ESTRIA INVITATIONAL GRAFFITI BATTLE was also in full effect.

One of the highlights of the extraordinary day was the FOOTWORK DANCE BATTLE. This is a dance style that was born in Chicago. The leaders of this particular group are on tour now with Madonna. But their shorties represented.
