" The other day" can mean literally 2 days ago or damn near 2 years ago...Thats how we talk. Brooklyn also has the one of the highest west indian population in the nation. What the statement is dependent upon is the phrase "just the other day" which is assumed by the poster to be literally a few days ago. But, it is probably aligned with a metaphorical "other day."
