Jim Harper's Gasparini street organ "De Lieve Stem". Originally a barrel organ but converted to book by Gasparini in the 1890s. This was altered to play the Perlee 52-key scale around 1930 and is the only surviving organ playing this scale. Perlee have recut all their original arrangements for this scale for the organ. It is said that this is the oldest draaiorgel in existence. Jim has rebuilt this after acquiring it from the US some years ago as a hopeless crate of bits which was how it had sat for the previous 40 years! A whole new facade has been built as the original was beyond repair. Get hold of a CD of this organ - it's exceptionally fine! The organ lives in Wellington, New Zealand!
The two pieces heard here are both from original 1930 Perlee arrangements : 1) For You Rio Rita 2) Gypsy Princess selection (by Emmerich Kalman)
Met uitzondering van de bourdon is het overige pijpwerk wel orgineel Gasparini pijpwerk wat dit orgel toch nog een aparte klank geeft als uit een ver verleden.
