The Stench of Truth 203 Job losses have slowed in July, and with the markets climbing many have said this is a sign that we are on the road to recovery. I beg to differ. There will continue to be job losses. What of the millions out of work now and no jobs for them? Add to that the hundreds of thousands more in the coming months and then factor in the end of unemployment benefits. We are in for some trouble down the road. This country has been gutted of our ability to support a huge employment base and I don't see millions of new jobs suddenly coming into being, at least NOT in this country.

  • Welfare in Ireland is about 5bn a year, basics. Total welfare including Health is 21bn a year. Our economy generally generates 35-45 bn a year, the lower side of that these days. When we've finished giving our version of the TARP called NAMA the 90bn it needs, the interest on our National Debt will be 5bn per year.

This little island is going to darken for the next 5-7 years imo. Others think 15 years of shadows. A mechanic today reckoned 20.

Maybe we can hope for disaster tourism .. ?

  • All congress can do is create temporary jobs for Americans because they have chiseled away at the very foundation that has made America great, which is industries. I fear that when the republicans come back into office they will believe tax cuts will solve the problem once more not realizing that they have taken apart the very foundation ( industries) to give tax cuts too
