In this installment of roving reporter Michael Wigge's quest for the truth about Germany, he explores why Germans are so good at fairy tales. Just look at the Brothers Grimm whose book on fairy tales is the most widely read German cultural book in the world and translated into more than 160 languages and dialects. Wigge visits the Fairy Tale Park "Frau Holleland", and goes to Polle, the alleged home of Cinderella.

  • @Lintflas well, yes, indeed grimm brothers fairytales versions are the most popular worldwide, but I think that's a sad fact because I wish that the pentamerone had the world recognition it deserves for being the first european collection of fairytales.

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx

Whatever you say, doesn't change the fact that the most popular and widespread fairy tales all come from Germany. That is a fact.

  • @Lintflas the fact that they were collected by german grimm brothers doesn't automatically make them german fairy tales. i'm not saying that they copied all of them, but certainly the grimm brothers borrowed a lot from the pentamerone. if you search some information about this book, you will see it for yourself.

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx

Most famous German fairy tales were written by the German Grimm brothers.

  • too bad german fairy tales are not even german (or at least most of them), but italian. indeed most of these fairy tales had already been collected two hundred years earlier by giambattista basile in his book "il pentamerone", in the neapolitan language. search for it! it's much more funny and spicy than its german counterpart!

  • Good wins over evil? No, most fairy tales ended cruelly. Its more like a moral lesson or its just plain sadistic. The truth about fairy tales

  • @laramenke a short and a bit incorrect summary of my homeland is forest, hills, fields. yes as said a lot more spread out then being up close detail, and yes i am from hessen

  • I watched the movie "the brothers grimm" while over there and the "natives" had no clue that it was the brothers grimm who collected the fairy tails, let alone that they were german. and they had already seen the movie before...

  • well, I'm germany and I spend last year in monroe, Wisconsin and i guess there are some similarities when it come to the countryside, but only a part of germany looks somewhat like wisconsin.

the climate in the different part of germany is more different that in the parts of WI and that's why the german nature has a lot more variety. and besides, a lot more hills (at least in the south).

  • cool car!! BMW 02 forever!
