  • Curious..was there any 3D in this game? I see 3D elements being in the 1st person view.

  • @AbelGomez1987 Yes, the battles are generated as basic, textureless 3D polygons. Although it looks pretty primitive, polygon graphics like this seemed impossible to use on gaming consoles until the first Starfox game was relased for the SNES.

Done lecturing now. Basically, it is a 3D polygon game.

  • why didn't the AI even attempt to fight back? WTF srsly

  • @Tuze The Ai's only concern in defense missions is to kill the target, not you. It's very easy to take advantage of.

  • FIGHT ME!!!

  • @TheMechElite I'm considering uploading "Heavy Plays Mechwarrior". Ya know, with heavy weapons guy's voice while the game is being played.

  • The grafics are actually decent for 1989.

  • holy crap, 1989? Jeeze, this actually looks pretty good for being older than the Russian Federation. Hell, I remember playing games on those bigass 6" floppies when the only color was green because that was the color of the monitor. Of course that was because the school I went to was in a hick town in saskatchewan and that was the most modern computer they had.

In terms of the old pre-nintendo stuff this is pretty damn good. I didnt realize the mechwarrior computer game series was that old.

  • Is this the original music for this game? I know this music was in Mech 2.

  • Yeah, I wasted many hours on this game. The missiles and autocannons actually had a much longer range than the HUD indicated; I would take a rifleman or shadowhawk and stay back far enough that the enemy 'mechs wouldn't even react to me and take them down :)

  • This looks pretty fucking good for 1989.

  • 1972 my ass.

  • If you see a Battlemaster/Warhammer, press TAB!

  • Futuristic

  • I used to play that in high school.

  • LOL 256 colors

  • @Spirals95 @mascot1063 Actually there's a glitch between DOSBox in later versions and the 'switch' between the 3d sim executable "BTECH.EXE" and the 'front-end' menu system executable "MW.EXE" relating to MIDI settings: if you either type "mpu401=uart" in the command line before starting MechWarrior within DOSBox, or change this setting in your 'conf' file (if you're using an autoloader application), you can avoid the problem.

  • @Kliwadenko Dynamix is the company that developed the game - Activision published it for them. Dynamix is also known for the big "Red Baron" flight sim game of around the same time pub. by Sierra, as well as the EarthSiege/Starsiege (Tribes anyone?) series that competed with MechWarrior in the PC gaming industry.
