I think the purpose is to demonstrate that amazing things can be done in reality without relying on digital means. Is it dangerous? Yes, because it's unreliable and thrilling. So is every other improbable thing that happens in reality. We call them miracles. Li Wei may be crazy for doing things like this but I'm at least impressed by the fact that he did.

if he did the whole thing in photoshop it would make it safe, stupid is what stupid does when some one is killed from this. there is always a safer way to do something like this and i so dont see this as being safe. like the stunt man that strapped him self to the bottom of a plane and the hook broke and he fell to his death he was not thinking WHAT IF?
