Marlee Matlin in Desperate Housewives

I always love that scene from Desperate Housewives: Episode 17: There won't be trumpets. However, the first time I saw somewhere on youtube that I show from my weblog. It start with my rant that someone mistook about deaf can read lip. It's not true. However, it seem that some deaf make request to see that scene with subtitle. So, I brought it up to share everybody.

I'm curious, how did she learn English and some of the basic words if she couldn't hear since birth?

@Nerdicusable she lost her hear when she was 18 months old. And... we have speech therapy.

wait..shes deaf? how does she hear what the woman is saying, and have the problem of not being able to talk....please excuse my ignorance..i thought people only spoke in the way she is speaking if she was to be COMPLETELY deaf...someone please enlighten me..

@BlackSupraC2 She can read lip but not 100%. Remmy that one, she play in Seinfeld where Jerry and George need her as her lip reader-interpreter for them? That was so funny.

My husband's Deaf, he doesn't lipread too well. I'm Deaf but I do lipread. We happen to work things out when communicating with hearing people. He has good voice to use when talking with hearing people and I interpret when they say something back to us. And no I don't use my voice. Get it? That's the beauty of our marriage =D LOL

truth is CODA's have to interpret "adult" conversations all the time. almost every day. My best friend is a CODA so we talk about it a lot. I know how much the Deaf community appreciates CODA's.

@aguabo good for you :). Sign language is so beautiful, I'm actually taking it (tomorrow im excited!) I have hearing loss and it is getting worse, so I do need it later on in life, and my lipreading isnt so well, but i can make out some words.
