"Now even John Carmack will hate us"...definitely the best line.

@xplinux22 It's true to a certain point. Some functions are sparingly (or should be sparingly) used and are "unoficially" deprecated and slow (not implemented for speed but for bacward compatibility) it's more about the programmer and the knowledge of the API than anything else.
I might be wrong, but I don't think HLSL is faster than GLSL or CPU->GPU memory copies are slower in OpenGL, the problem is that too many people inadvertly use imediate mode and other easier to use functions =/

The number of times ive seen this hitler scene on youtube...

@moofotv It's still here; always will be as long as OpenGL will hang around. :)
@michaliskebab The problem is that OpenGL's features and its speed are falling behind DirectX. The legacy code has limitations and lots of counter-intuitive bits in it that were once put there because of hardware and software limitations at the time (Windows 95/98-era). Nowadays, GPU's are better than ever, and people are clamoring for an end to legacy code, which would hugely help OpenGL compete with DirectX.

Linux is the best
OpenGl is the best
-
@AdvokaraOfficial Why is this bad then? Back compatibility is always nice to have. I don't want to see Quake (and even Minecraft) stop working on modern systems.
-
@michaliskebab if they declare the depracated code is removed, then no openGL 1 will not work
-
Can anyone brief me on this? Will old OpenGL 1 applications still work if the deprecated code is removed?
-
yeah right...
Dear God, I'd never thought I'd have to say this, but Hitler is right.
Legacy support is cool, but only until a certain point.

Despite this, I STILL refuse to use DirectX. Microsoft can suck it.
