Didn't make it very obvious what to do, did they? Why can't they break the fourth wall like Metal Gear and tell you to "Press the action button when standing next to a tree to use the fertiliser" and say something about pushing the Select button to open the Codec screen?

Well they do have a tutorial box on the top left that tells you what to do. So why not use that? It told me what to do with the Ice Spray spell earlier.

You are right about MGS having a pretty weird way of mixing gameplay tips into story talk. I don't really like it but I try to just ignore it.
