  • I am amazed at just how much you got going on. I live in Miami and although I've made several half-a$&ed attempts at gardening before this year I am passionate. I am very intimidated though. Have you been doing this long and if so how do you recommend j start, or with what novice friendly plants? Thanks! Great post!

  • @TheVisforvanessa Im a novice my self.. I started growing tomatoes from my garage and decided to treat the soil in a small patch with some homedepot soil, Florida soil ain't the greatest. You'll be amazed at how many plants grow in this tropical weather. I'm gonna start fresh this year since bugs got the best of me this year with my corn. I watched lots of videos and tried out some of the ideas pro gardeners used. Start small and Learn how to germinate seeds before planting them. Good Luck

  • Great job on your garden Jay. Yes, those are oranges growing on your tree but I would recommend taking them off until your tree is a bit bigger. The oranges will grow but your tree is too small to support them and they will damage your tree. You also want all the trees energy to go to the roots and growth and right now it's going to the fruit.

  • @PamMar1 Thank you...I'll be posting an update soon...

  • LOve it!

  • How did it all end up? its now dec nearly a year now which plants were the easiest? do you recommend certain types of plants after doing this? the topsy turvy thing better than anything else? Its dec when did you start planting last year? thanks for sharing the garden I live in Broward county Pembroke Pines.

  • Plants that grow fruits or like pumpkin, they require a lot more of water ^^

  • I know this is a late response but in regards to your pumpkin, what you described sounds perfectly normal. Many squash do that as a way of dealing with heat. As long as the soil is still moist and the leaves are only slightly drooping (no discoloration or dryness) than there shouldn't be anything to worry about :)

    great garden btw!

  • Good job on your garden. That's how I would like to have my backyard looking. I'm a new comer to gardening in general. I don't have a green thumb at all. My question is, how to do start a backyard garden with a small backyard in south Florida? How do you divide the area, what plants to you plant directly in the ground or in a pot first? Etc. Nice garden.

  • I agree with PamMar you should pick the baby oranges to make the nutrients go into the plants development and not the fruits. Did you buy a already graphed tree or are you planning on graphing it yourself. I do have a question... I am from Central Florida and have never seen a Hawaiian Banana tree. Where did you get it from?

  • Hi..awesome garden!! ..we live in the Keys ,where we have a HUGE iguana problem!! :(... I was wondering if u have any advise on keeping them away from eating the plants, other than building a big screened in porch ..we live on a houseboat so that might not work..lol.......my husband built me a huge cage where i grew my tomato and pepper plants. idk....n e way..i think maybe ur pumpkin plant is withering from to much daytime sun.

  • Great garden Jay!
