2008 Blue Angels Homecoming
NAS Pensacola
Pensacola, Florida
Saturday November 15, 2008

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as Fat Albert, the support C-130 Hercules for the Blue Angels, puts on an amazing JATO display for the home crowd at NAS Pensacola. There are two significant things about that day's Fat Albert performance - one being that this was probably the very last time a JATO demonstration will ever be done, due to the fact that the JATO bottles are no longer being made and the fact that Hurricane Ivan destroyed a huge supply of bottles when it roared through back in September 2004, and secondly, one of my best friend's good Navy buddies actually is on board Fat Albert on this flight!

I apologize for the shakiness of the video. Thursday and Friday had very little wind and it was very warm, while Saturday was very cold and very windy, and that is reflected in this video.

Like what you've seen? Well, if you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • I'm gonna miss that JATO...So why dont they make the bottles anymore? What technology rendered JATO unnecessary?

  • The C-130J does not need JATO bottles. One of these days 'Bert will be a J-model...

  • alot of wind

  • Ahh I see. That will be cool to see a fat albert J type. Something tells me it wont be for a while.

  • I doubt it was the last one. If they have bottles remaining, I'll bet they intend to use them all up.

  • Thanks Fat Albert has a special place in my heart. I am sorry to hear that Fat Albert Airline is loosing its JATO Abillity. They should put the Bottles back into Production just especialy for Fat Albert Airlines

  • C-130: my favorite propeller aircraft. =] Thanks for posting this, adding to "Veterans" Playlist. Five stars.
