  • @eveningninja That lick sounded killer and was timed very well. But lets agree that we disagree. Just look at this particular "Shred for the attack" video at 4:17 and Syus solo there... I don't see how that's timing at all... Well, that was about what I was talking about. I don't try to knock him or something. I mean even my favorite guitarists fuck up, it's completely natural... Well I am not going furhter in this argument again we maybe disagree but that's life.

  • @hsoux33 Gus G played it safest with his fully straight on the beat phrasing. But because Syu phrases things in floaty ways doesn't mean he's "off timing" per se. Here's an example, go to 2:32 in this video and listen to the way Syu phrases this fast run: watch?v=CojSv833FqI It's faster than sixteenth notes, but not quite sextuplets yet. It doesn't have any set rhythmic structure, but it is consistent and he lands his final notes in confidence, which makes it sound nice.

  • @hsoux33 Once again I disagree. It sounds to me like you just aren't used to hearing Syu and Takayoshi's kind of phrasing. For most of their "shredding runs" in this vid they actually just used straight sextuplets but at times went off the standard beat in what I'd describe as more of a "floaty" feel. They don't stick to each standard beat of the measure, but they land their ending note correctly and timely. It's also just in the way they accent their notes.

  • Lynch has a weird sound and a distinctive style of phrasing, so I can understand that you don't like him... =) but his timing was far above Takayoshi and Syu who lost timing and clarity totally when they tried to outshred the others... My point was, their shreding attempts here wasn't up to the standard that I would have expected based on other vids where they absolutely rips.

  • @hsoux33 I beg to differ. I think Lynch sounded like ass. Not a fan of his tone or phrasing, and his technique is lacking. Other three all did fine. I think Takayoshi's first solo was the best part of the vid.

  • Lynch and Gus G butchered the other guys here, quite surprising because both Syu and Takayoshi impressed me a at other occasions with monster technique and good playing and phrasing. but it's a whole other thing to play live, standing up and the guys with the best tone in their hands always win.

  • @teethlns Roope Latvala from Children Of Bodom has a t-shirt saying exactly that :)

    He's pretty damn awesome

  • @ChuckMullis hah, thats right, pick on the guy that had his prime in the 80s

  • androgynous male in red leather for the win!

  • @ChuckMullis George Lynch is better than the japanese guys
