There are an estimated 11 million OFWs in the whole world. But their voices are rarely seen nor heard. What stories are enclosed with every balikbayan box they send home? What do they truly feel behind their happy voices at the end of the other line? How hard is it for their families to be separated from them?

On March 13, GMA News and Public Affairs brings you OFW Diaries, a program dedicated to our modern day heroes. This program will give importance to the personal stories, issues and grievances not only of Overseas Filipino Workers but also of their families here in the Philippines. Through video diaries, they themselves will convey their adventures, struggles, trials and triumphs.

Multi-awarded journalist and TOYM awardee Kara David will be the bridge that shall connect families long separated, provide information to those who aspire to work abroad and bring inspiration from the success stories of OFWs.

On its pilot episode, three stories of domestic helpers will be featured. Crisanta Sampang has been working abroad as domestic helper for 25 years. But through her perseverance, she became a best selling author and an aspiring filmmaker as well. Meanwhile, Mildred Salbatierra will share her insights and doubts on the mysterious death of her OFW sibling, Beth, in Kuwait. Witness the experience of Bea Bailan, a GRO, who applied as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia so she can save enough money to recover her child whom she put up for adoption.

Dont miss the true-to-life stories of these new economic heroes in the premiere episode of OFW Diaries with Kara David, starting Friday, March 13, 2009, just after SAKSI.

  • cool people just keep cool

  • @umariana yup.. Mother's decision, I guess we have to respect that.

  • @mynameispenoy continuation: FYI, the said OFW is having a great time, not a cleaning lady anymore but she's now a famous writer and film maker.. Now, if she chose to grow old in Canada that's her decision, her kids respect that.

  • @mynameispenoy : WOW.. Just Wow! you got an even bigger and dirtier mouth than REEVERSE.. This is nothing but a GOOD FOR NOTHING COMMENT from a GOOD FOR NOTHING mynameispenoy! How I wish I could bust your GOOD FOR NOTHING UGLY mouth. She's not a cleaning lady abroad. There's nothing sad and pathetic about fulfilling and achieving your dream,

  • @umariana: yeah.. I know her kids personally, they want their mom to come home, they wanted to be with her more than anything in this world, but their mom is happier with her life there, I guess there's nothing wrong with respecting her decision and that's what she want..

  • @reeverse : what makes you so sure that her kids aren't working? She's not coming home coz she's enjoying her life there, how dare you talk like that, when you don't even have the faintest idea of what these people had gone through. You have no right to call her kids Leeches, you don't even know the whole story behind all these things. If you don't have anything good to say you better shut your F*$%^&G big dirty mouth. No one wants your opinion anyway..

  • like i said the mothers decision and she seems happy wat shes doing

  • NO. I agree with REEVERSE. These KIDS are good for nothing. Their mother is OLD. OLD!!!

Where is the compassion? Until when will she work? Until she die?

While her kids and their GOOD FOR NOTHING husbands hang around in Manila, WAITING for the monthly remittance?

Wow, just wow. This is a tragedy for the OFW. This woman is not a hero. She is a fool for spoiling her kids, and not teaching them the dignity of real work. So that's it then? She will die as a cleaning lady abroad. Sad and pathetic.

  • if they did work still nothing philippines dont make enouph money for work. if u put that together mother make 3ple sallary or more than double wat mother makes. sucrifice as long as u have energy to work. and i think shes happy to have wat shes doing.cant blame the kids the decision is to her hand..

  • Her kids each have their own house. The question is..WHY IS SHE STILL WORKING in Canada? WHY CANT SHE GO HOME?

Hey kids, here's an advise. GET SOME WORK, and bring your mom home. WHY ARE YOU STILL LEECHING YOUR MOM at her advance age? She ought to be retiring! Do you still expect her to pay for YOUR OWN children's schooling?

WOW...sad but true. MANY OFW get stuck abroad until they die. They NEVER get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Poor planning, and RELATIVES that LEECH off the poor OFW.
