The Celtic tree of life symbolizes strength, longevity, and wisdom. It further marks the connection between earth, the spirit and the universe. Often portrayed in illustration, it's rarely if ever shown represented in rope...until now.

Without being seated next to you, all I can do is encourage you to take your time, remember its a flat knot, and patiently draw up each cord until the look of the knot takes shape. Outside of that, use a 1/4 inch solid braid nylonrope (gotten at most hardware stores) to tie the piece. Flimsy cotton cord or string just won't due for this.

  • How long should the string be? The rope I have is about a meter and a half long and all I get is a floppy tangled mess :/

  • @Shindai - My rope (1/4 inch solid braid nylon) was about 6 feet long

  • Knot impressed....jk!

  • the celts will never cease to amaze me

  • I suspect that if I grab some white nylon, it'll be easier to see what I'm doing than with this black-with-blue-patches 3/8 that I'm using now. Great vid!

  • Keep doing what your doing your great!!!

  • It's so beautiful it's almost spiritual, thank you for sharing. I'm making things for my husband this year so I thought I could make him a whole bunch of different celtic knots since he really loves them.

  • Awesome! I almost had it...but...I was trying to tie it with a long string out of sweatpants. Lol. Not quite firm enough to hold its shape. :P
