The world of storytelling is changing quickly, with the centralized power of Hollywood giving way to voices from outside the system. The ninth Native Cinema Showcase celebrates the indigenous artists and communities whose work is at the forefront of this international populist media movement. Their stories, motivated by social progress, not profit, are urgent, innovative and diverse: a dying mans journey across Oklahoma, a community radio station serving the Lakota Nation, indigenous people fighting a petrochemical giant in Ecuador, an Inuit community in transition. Films and videos will be screened at the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA) and at the Cinema in Cathedral Park in downtown Santa Fe. We are pleased to collaborate with the Indigenous Language Institute, the New Mexico Film Office, the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Taos Center for the Arts.
