SHOOTING: THE SPORT: THE FACTS is designed both for those inside the shooting community and those who have no experience of shooting all. It is hoped that shooters may show this film to their non-shooting friends and acquaintances, and also to persons of influence such as local councillors and MPs. The idea is that the shooting community itself can become the major means of transmission.
SHOOTING: THE SPORT: THE FACTS shows shooting as it really is, and makes the point that shooting is often misrepresented in the mainstream media. Most people have a distorted view of shooting from having seen firearms misuse in the news and popular entertainment. This production puts the record straight and shows shooting as it really is. More than a million ordinary, law abiding, and completely normal people in the UK use firearms for sport and their work.

What is really sad is that people who don't shoot, don't seem to care about the rights of people that do these days - everyday our historic freedoms diminish - all our freedoms. Being able to shoot is, typically, a symptom/feature of a free society - it goes without say that in communist societies it was almost impossible to shoot if you were not a member of the party, similarly, Hitler banned private guns for the majority as soon as he could. If we don't fight for our rights we will lose them.

Shooting is amazingly relaxing. More so than any other past time i have experienced.
I used to love spending a day or two on a lay on a range baking in the sun whilst concentrating on above most things my breathing.
For a stressed out teenager with a poor home it was a time when i could really relax and forget about my problems. I'd suggest it as therapy for any stressed out person.
Unfortunately i can't shoot anymore following a driving conviction which put me in prison :(

nice one mike ,GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE,,,,, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE , there's more violence in football then ( sport shooting ) but football is the biggest sport going !!!!! but its not banned ,how many people are hurt or killed with intent when shooting using a firearm for sport ,not a lot ,its only when you add crime into it and 99.9% of the time the firearms are illegal ones

In China they use knives & they've had knife massacres. Are we going to ban all knives then? Same in Japan, the've had sword rampages too.A person could make a home-made flamethrower, from a stove-lighter & a can of hairspray kill with that,or hijack a lorry & run people over in a town centre, like a truck driver did ,in Australia. All a psycho needs to do is buy a set of knives,a full-petrol can,50 empty wine-bottles,rags & an axe or chainsaw from a hardware shop & make molotovs,to lob at people.

You might not care, but others like myself & Mike Yardley do.By the way China bans all gun from civillian ownership & so does Venezuela & Venezuela's crime rate is higher than Britains, despite their recent outright gun ban on civillian ownership.40 years ago there were no massacres & gun ownership was less restrictive, than today.Different world, with different people, whom were better than some of the brain-dead chavs of today. We fought tooth & nail for our gun rights in the UK & will not surrender

Unfortunately, those activists, councillors & the MPs themselves, whom represent the working-classes nowdays,in politics from centre-left are very anti-gun,with this new anti-gun propaganda, after Dunblane & black on black gun crime,etc..The new left aren't as gun tolerant as the old left were & so you'll find that most working-class shooters will support the Tories,as the Tories are more pro-shooting rights, than any Left-wing parties & will preserve their rights to guns.

Is sure is a funny scenario. At 6:52 Great Britain's shooting team has won more medals than......In the back of my mind I cant help but think, ''great Britain's stupid self defence laws has got less criminals shot than any country in the world''.

By the way I might add that there are a lot of working class people in this film, but the point is well made, people do get the wrong impression about shooting and when I make this again I will make sure that the social diversity of shooters is made apparent. On the grouse front, grouse are a native and wild bird, the conservation work that goes into moors is one of the reasons British grouse thrive. It also brings work into depressed areas - the argument for grouse shooting is very strong.
