(Note: be sure to click on the watch in "HD" option for better sound and picture.) ...and then click the full frame button. The vocalist on this Jackson side is Sam Costa, a popular singer with other English bands such as Lionel Falkman '35, Bert Firman '37, Jack Harris '36, Harry Leader '36, Joe Loss '39, Johnny Rosen '35, Nat Star '34, Lew Stone '38 and probably his most famous vocal was "She Shall Have Music" with the Jack Hylton Orch '36. He had a nice, smooth sound -- the Jackson may be his earliest recording.

  • Either this is an extreme rarity (an HMV disc without crackle) or you have performed a miracle.

  • It was just a small miracle.

  • @DeLorean4 If properly stored over the years, these HMV pressings can sound really great. I probably have a couple of thousand HMV discs and a majority suffer from the infamous crackle despite often looking like they've never been played. You can see the pits in the shellac with a magnifying glass.

  • @merrihew That would explain quite a lot. My finest recordings from that era are on british label HMVs. Not quite sure whether mine were pressed in the UK or in Montréal. On my channel I have "Round the world Medley" and "Hear my Prayer" from this HMV series.

  • @DeLorean4 They started out that way but there was something about the composition of the HMV record material that resulted in pock marks on the record surfaces due to a combination of moisture (when stored in a damp environment) and the material of the paper record sleeves. This has been well documented. American pressings of English HMV material do not have this problem.

  • @merrihew May I direct your attention to articles 2 and 3 of the record sleeve?

  • Clever job, like the inner sleeve

  • Sam Costa later became a popular radio broadcaster and record presenter, as did Jack Jackson

  • Not only a great recording - but so true lol......Oh!-if dancing would come back along with real music like this....

  • This title was alwasy a favorite of mine, I really like this version and the transfer you did is amazing. Great job, can't wait to hear more.
