Lava from Kilauea Volcano has been flowing into the Pacific Ocean for about 25 years. However, it forms a crust right away and forms a tube which allows it to be better insulated and travel much farther. The most scenic time to observe the lava is when it is just reaching the ocean, such as in this video. After that, it will soon crust up and the area shrouded in steam, and it is more difficult to observe the lava when it enters the water.
Curiously beautiful. It's images like these that confirm that this wonderful planet will endure in some form without any intervention from us at all. It's what that form takes that's the issue, I suppose but ultimately, this beautiful Earth will eventually become a desert or be swallowed up by ol' Sol. Kind-of reassurring.
