Lava finally reaches the Pacific Ocean at Kamokuna after a seven mile journey from the Pu'u O'o vent in Kilauea Volcano.

A small black sand beach is formed when the surf quenches the hot lava.

  • does this create more land?

  • @akilleez84 All the islands in the state of Hawaii were created by lava flows. Recent flows have been only on the Big Island. Lava flows make the island bigger either upward or outward or both. The surf may break down small flows such as this but the debris will make the underwater base wider and help support future flows.
