Rick Astley. That is all.

What a waste of stock.
-
the S16mm never die....film is more magic.
-
What scenes were shot with what stock? This is like 35mm.
-
i assume you were using 4 perforation rate? what filmstock?

The debate of different formats...

And I agree with Joni, Digital doesn't look at all like film, even though in POST you can try to make it look like film, but it just doesn't have that "dream like" quality of film, or the dynamic range... just isn't there... And I so much love the classics in color or bw :) Such beauty to my eyes really... But one must consider the lightning, makeup, set ... it all has to do with conveying your and or the directors intent on the screen. This music video was well done.

Video is Video regardless if you're using a full frame sensor Canon DSLR, RED or 3 Chip. Film is Film .. they're different. I personally love film. =)
Is this a good likeness to the red scarlet 2/3"?

I like everything about this. Music is great, shooting is awesome, and story and cinematography is perfect for the song. The only question I have is why doesn't my Super 16 look this good? What lenses did you use?

It's all about the transfer. I have a $100 dollar russian K3 standard 16mm camera, and When I scan the frames on a flatbed film scanner. the quality is just as good as this (at 720p)
good glass helps as well, keeping the picture sharp, which creates a better transfer.
Super 16mm gives you a little more resolution for 1920x1080 (or a 2k transfer which is 2048x1536 typically)

I agree this looks great, surprisingly though, there is nothing terribly special about this transfer.
Just a standard 2K transfer, probably done on the Arri Scan system.
They actually shot this video on 3 different cameras to compare everything. dynamic range, resolution, grain, color etc.
They are using lenses (probably arri master primes) that are wide open at T1.3
This keeps the background extremely out of focus, which can't be done unless you have a lens that lets in this much light.
