A perfect ending to one of the most brilliant albums ever recorded. This came out in 1972, while most bands were still transitioning from the dated sounds of psychedelia. It took another seven years for The Wall to come out, where people would finally be ready for this kind of album.
Lou's always been ahead of his time.

I've been listening to this album for more than 30 years and I have to say that this song in particular grows in power as the years go by.....
Loving the album as I do, I've never been able to relate to the subject matter, never experiencing the drugs & beatings & loss of children & suicide of a loved one.....but I've been caught in the album's spell all these years....
The "Berlin" album is NOT for the casual listener, but "Sad Song" is a MAJOR 20th Century artistic achievement......

I hit Lou (accidentally) with a picnic basket in Liberty's, London once. Fine way to treat the man who provided the soundtrack to my uni years. Thanks to Nicola Ryley for giving me the album cos it was too heavy for her.
