I was a CIT that summer, lots of fun, great camp, but now I can't go back cause I moved last summer I would still recomend CITing though if u can!!!!!
That's a common misconception, but the US code says nothing about this. The1980 publication by the BSA "Our Flag" did say to cut up the flag (because of problems with a big enough fire to properly do the whole flag), but later this part was removed, presumably due to differing customs and the lack of support by the Flag Code. The only conclusion that can be drawn then is; you may cut or not cut the flag as long as the flag is retired in a "dignified" manner, which this was.
Woot! just got back 6 hours ago. 2009 baby! It was awesome. Did the mile swim, Communications, Forestry, E-Prep, Camping, And Woodcarving. Probably goin back as a CIT next year.
I was a Scout 1980's., Leader Late 80's early 90's and Camp Staff at Winton 1980 and 2000. I have always liked the Fri. flag retirement. I have watched it evolve and am proiud to have participated in it as well. The Scouts and Staff of Winton should be proud of how well the honor the Country and the Flag in this cerimony. Thanks to the person who captured the event for history. Gonzo
I was on staff from 89-94 and took part in this ceremony every Friday night

You should not retire a flag as a whole. "A flag ceases to be a flag when it is cut into pieces"
