Dungan graduated from Baylor University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree. He has also received private meteorological training from the National Engineering Science Company in Houston, Texas while employed at KTRK-TV.

I remember the night this aired - it was hilarious. All of the Big 4 stations here in North TX were following a police chase in progress. This breaking news took up so much time during the 10pm news that it forced all the stations to basically scrap all of their originally planned stories at the last minute. WFAA made a last-minute call to toss to weather. Troy and Pete Delkus were unprepared to be tossed to, and the rest is history.

I don't think any of us trust Troy because of any credentials he has. He is trusted because he has been in our homes for the past three decades. All the education in the world doesn't mean a thing without some experience behind it.
