Provided by http://ACityOfFriends.com. The Krewe of Orpheus is one of the newer, younger of the Mardi Gras parades. Founded by Harry Connick, Jr., Orpheus is always a star-studded affair. This year the celebrity guests included Benjamin Batt of the hit Showtime Series "Mad Men," Joan Rivers, Jim Belushi, Jay Thomas, the cast of the television show, "Reno 911" and Amanda Shaw among others.
The floats, featuring fiber optic lighting, were breathtaking. This year's theme, "The Whimsical World of How and Why" provided wide latitude for the floats which tended to stay close to nature in their designs.
Contemporary live music was a welcome change from the usual Mardi Gras parade fare and served to complete the parade organizers' commitment to providing a fresh update to the Mardi Gras experience.
With almost two weeks worth of parading, Mardi Gras in New Orleans certainly has room for both the traditional parades and the parades with a more contemporary approach.
The Krewe of Orpheus is one Mardi Gras parade that should not be overlooked.
