um... no it does not. All it is is that it would replace the way our energy is measured. instead of telling us what we have used. It tells us what we have used AND when we have used it.

So please stop freaking. these are not connected to the internet or phone lines, there fore the government cannot see our energy consuption.

Lastly; the U.S. governemnt has become really intrusive because of the patriot act. If you are a suspected terrorist, you lose your rights.

WRONG! Smartgrid gives the GOVERNMENT information about your energy usage. If you don't think they will find some way to use that information to their own advantage, you're living in a dream world. Our government has become increasingly intrusive over the years, and the smartgrid is a HUGE step in the wrong direction.
