Please don't dig out ants and don't collect protected species. In Germany, many forest ants (Formica sp.) are protected and you should never disturb or even collect any such ant! Please leave the ants in forests alone and get yourself a Lasius or similar ant queen from the street!

Hügelbauende und andere Waldameisen sind in Deutschland geschützt (Formica sp.) und es ist verboten, sie zu stören oder sogar einzusammeln! Sie sind schwarz und rot gefärbt. Bitte respektiert die Natur, lasst Ameisen im Wald in Ruhe und sammelt lieber eine Königin von Lasius sp. auf der Strasse ein!

I live in TN is there still a chance of finding a queen still? Its starting to get cold...I know their more easy to find during the spring and summer.
