Earlier today, President Cook submitted written testimony to the House Education Committee opposing SB 619, which would allow for unchecked expansion of cyber schools in Michigan. Read his full testimony here: http://bit.ly/tpCtrD MEA strongly believes online learning is an important tool that can be helpful in supplementing traditional education. But full-time virtual schools are not an adequate replacement. Nor are they a replacement for well-trained teachers spending individual time with students. The last thing Michigan schools need is to have crucial funding siphoned off and diverted to full-time virtual schools, whose effectiveness is questionable, at best.
Please urge your state representatives to reject Senate Bill 619.
