This is one of two films I made as a final project for my class Critical and Alternative Voices, at Whitman College in Walla Walla Washington. This film is meant to focus on people interacting with one another and a violence or mistake being made that creates an impasse. The idea is not so much meant to focus on the impasse itself, because it is supposed to represent a situation that albeit somewhat irregular is far from uncommon, but more so on the ways of dealing with the friction of the moment and conflict. There is utmost necessity of humanism when people are at odds. There is a great need of listening to other people as people and not ideas of people or groups of people. By posting this on Youtube I hope that there will be a commentary on discourse. Edward Said examines the literary discourse in his book Orientalism and in his tradition I am utilizing the discourse, a means of limited and inaccurate representation that often create harmful and destructive cultural stereotypes. By posting these videos on Youtube I am using the discourse for hopefully reparative measures. I hope that they entertain you as well as give you pause.
