The job of on-duty police officers is not to engage in discussion about politics and the questionable actions of other officers. This is a stupid expectation.

If you read the first reports, BART tried to make it sound like the officer was defending himself. It wasn't until the videos came out did people see the truth, even then BART called the videos "inconclusive". It boils down to the officer's incompetence, BART's incompetence and the feeling that there would be no justice. But none of this justifies the violent rioters. And don't you see what happens? The rioters make people hate the cause. Nothing gets better.

This moment in Oakland's history is a very challenging for the Obama Administration in that it presses him to the podium to speak his views on topics as terrorism, racial profiling in America, police brutality, black liberation movements, death penalty... all sorts of issues. Let's not forget that this case deals directly with murder and the justice system. The battles before the trial should not go unnoticed by the public. Let's not forget that the issue is bigger than US. We need this battle.
