  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I understood from this style of martial arts is that it teaches you how to keep your body relaxed while punching and getting hit... the problem is that it just looks way too relaxed, and they focused so much on it they have forgotten the basic principles every martial artist should adopt: stable yet fluid fighting stance, guard, footwork, balance and coordination...

  • @AyzieBone "looks way too relaxed" Yes, and is supposed to. There is a reason for each one of the things you say they have forgotten. This is a system designed for real life which has very few constants. There are endless variables within each situation. (Ex No guard) A static guard presupposes one opponent in one direction while standing, projects aggressive or frightened "vibe", presupposes attacks to upper torso, limits mobility and vision. In a boxing match however, a guard is very logical.

  • Where does the power come from in the punching? It looks like they do not use their bodyweight. I dont understand.

  • @JPnijmegen The short answer is the weight of the arm.

  • @recshooter the long answer is weight of the arm. So they punch like a 9 year old girl that knows boxing.

  • @hopked "the long answer is weight of the arm" No, that is the short one. There isn't enough character space here to explain it adequately to someone unfamiliar with the concept. There are a few excellent videos on youtube that explain it very well. There is a short e-book by Val Riazanov (sometimes it is free) on his website that explains the concept. It really isn't "mystical" or anything like that. Watch vids of Russian folk styles or combat sports and you will see similarities in punching.

  • For people trying to compare UFC to Systema, I think its like trying to compare apples to oranges. They have different goals with each, and are very effective for what they are designed for. As simple way to look at it is the following:

Put MMA guy against Russian Special Ops using Systema in a dark rainy alley with broken glass, guess who walks away fronm the situation? My money is on Special Ops

Put Special Ops guy in octagon with MMA guy, guess who wins the match? MMA guy.

    Simple

  • I fought a systema practicioner.. It's in my channel

  • Nice armbar

  • WE WANNA SEE SYSTEMA VS MMA!!!

  • The secret to the art is to stay very relaxed, any tension in the body kills this system. You then blend with the attack (like aikido ) but with less form and drain your attacker energy & will to fight. I can't confess to be able to do this, but I have had it applied to me & been shocked as my energy was drained out of me a soft strike.

  • @recshooter if you want to explain it to me i'd listen.....well....i'd read, but anyway you could inbox me. Does it have anything to do with the short power techniques of wing chun?

  • @recshooter Hey recshooter can you point me to where I can learn more about this system... it looks very similar to TCF (which I do) but may be more relaxed. my emotional response would be to say "too relaxed" but I have had enough experience to know not to dimiss any style. I don't quite get some of the bio mechanics.

  • @dakaodo I'll second that and add....watch the videos a little more carefully. Where some people just throw body punches, the instructors hit the solar plexus, just as one example. It's not just "loose hits"--the principle is the same as a boxer's jab, throwing the weight of the arm so the punch _hits specific targets_. Any idiot can flail and sort of hit a heavy bag....but specifically hitting the throat or chin or solar plexus? That takes training.

  • @mislai Because MMA is a sport. Systema is a combat system designed for real life and special ops. so both train for very different goals and achievements

  • Systema has a different learning curve from other martial arts.

  • @JPnijmegen I've been introduced to Systema but am not a practitioner. It seems similar to the physics of internal kung fu styles. You start the movement using your core, so you are using your bodyweight, but with a move starting from the hips that is usually hard to see especially at 360p. The arm's relaxed mass is then sharply thrown in a slingshot so that there is almost none of the usual muscular counter-tension that overprotects our joints (from e.g. hyperextension) and slows our strikes.
